A day like today, but in 1960, the Lockheed-Azcarate LASA-60 performed it’s first flight.
The LASA-60 “Aeroguayin” was a light transport, able to operate from short and unpaved airstrips. The aircraft was built in Ciudad Valles, San Luis Potosí, Mexico. It’s principal user was the Mexican Air Force with 18 units, as the one seen in the picture.
Sadly, few aircraft were sold and the production was ceased in 1962, being produced between 36 and 44 units, the Air Force retired the last one in 1969.
This aircraft in particular, with the registration BRL-1018, was part of the Search, Rescue and Evacuation 209th Air Squad (EABRE 209), based in Santa Lucía Air Base.
There are two other preserved LASA’s known in Mexico, apart from the one in the picture inside the Military Aviation Museum, one inside a park at Guadalajara, Jalisco (BRL-1034) and another inside the Air Force Academy at Zapopan, Jalisco. All of them have the same blue and white scheme.
